That with respect to Report C2025-0213, the Recommendations be amended by adding a new Recommendation #2 as follows: Direct Administration to calculate the cost of invoicing related to property taxes (including but not limited to labour and materials) and submit an invoice to the Government of Alberta to cover their proportional share.
Council gave all three readings to the 2025 Property Tax Bylaw, which sets and authorizes the city’s 2025 property tax rates and lets the city collect those taxes; it also approved a 2025 Machinery & Equipment tax exemption and the 2025 Rivers District CRL rate, and directed staff to calculate and invoice the Government of Alberta for the province’s share of property tax invoicing costs.
These decisions formally set how much property owners will pay in 2025, establish tax-exemption and CRL rules for 2025, and start an administrative process to recover municipal invoicing costs from the provincial government.
